What is the difference between sublimation and screen printing?

SubZero offers two different methods of printing, in order to provide a process that best suits your artwork. We offer sublimation printing for the majority of our products, as well as screen printing.

Sublimation printing is a relatively new technique used to print long lasting images on a number of products. Unlike conventional processes where the ink is laid on top of the surface, sublimation inks are physically embedded directly into products as they are dyed into the surface under heat and pressure. This technique leaves a long lasting, vibrant look that will never crack, peel or fade, versus various other techniques. Whether you are looking to create custom uniforms for your sports team, or would like a metal sign to set your business apart, sublimation offers many options to fit your custom printing needs. This process can be used on a number of products ranging from signs and apparel to can koozies and rally towels – if you can think it, we can ink it! Your options are nearly unlimited.

Screen printing involves creating a stencil (printers call this a “screen”), and then using that stencil to apply layers of ink on the printing surface. Each color is applied using a different stencil, one at a time, combined to achieve the final look. This method is used when dark apparel options are chosen.

At Subzero we are proud to stand behind each printing method, 100% of the time. While we are currently working to enable more products for sublimation printing, the products available on the website have been thoroughly tested and approved. We are printing perfectionists, and will not enable products for either method that to not result in the best final product. Artwork printed by both methods goes through the same process, being reviewed and proofed by our expert artists.
